C7 and C9 Christmas lights are traditional sets of lights that have become very popular among the public, particularly in their use for Christmas trees and other Christmas displays. Such lights first became widely used in the 1950s; you may even remember these from your childhood, those lights that were draped around your Christmas tree or of your parents house. Nonetheless, the C7 and C9 lights have come a long way and are still available in a wide range of styles and colors these days. Many believe that they are still the ideal type of lights to be used for the Christmas season, and the style that always comes to mind when they think of the holidays.

C7 lights had been first introduced by General Electric in the 1930s whereas C9 lights were made available earlier in the late 1920s by the same company. During these days, only the wealthy individuals were capable of buying C7 lights due to a costly price. The C9 Christmas lights had been designed mainly for outdoor use; consequently, General Electric and other manufacturers of Christmas lights became sponsors of neighborhood contests with which the aim was to use decorations with colored lights. An interesting feature of both the C7 and C9 lights is that they have parallel circuits. If one bulb went out, the others will still function. After the second World War, the C7 and C9 Christmas lights had caught the attention of many. As such, from the 1950s and onwards, Christmas decorations were never the same without the C7 and C9 lights.

Here are a number of facts that you should know about the C7 and C9 lights. Aside from using parallel circuits, they are also long-lasting and resilient with which the use of C7 lights will guarantee you ten or more years whereas using C9 lights will make sure that you enjoy them for at least five years or even more. There is no need to purchase a new set every year, allowing you to save money and time during the Christmas season. Next, the C7 lights burn at 5 watts each while the C9 lights require 7 watts for each. It can therefore be said that these lights are cool-burning as they do not reach a very high level of temperature that will cause fire-related hazards. They are also similar to LED lights and little twinkle bulbs that do not pose risks to homeowners when being draped around indoors or outdoors.

C7 and C9 lights are also energy-efficient in such a way that they will make your decorations look brilliant and festive while only burning at 5 watts or 7 watts for each bulb. Moreover the sockets for both C7 and C9 bulbs come with molded clips that you can easily clip on the branches of a tree to stay put, preventing them from sliding around. With these sets of lights, you can be sure that you are spending your Christmas season and putting up decorations in a practical way by saving up on money, time, and energy. Thanks to these classic C7 and C9 Christmas lights.

Decorating with multi-color lights can be really fun and easy; especially with a wide range of lights that have been made available in every color there is, from mini lights to twinkle bulbs. Such multi-colored lights are inexpensive, not to mention versatile, which makes them an ideal choice for accenting your decorating projects and displays. Multi-color lights can help add sparkle with a soft illumination to just about any area or space, such as outdoor landscapes, plants, fences, ceilings, shelves, and so much more. If you intend to transform your room or enhance any project using multi-color lights, it will not take a lot of your time and money. This is an advantage for individuals whose goal is to add sparkle to their favorite things but do not have the time to carry on with such project.

One of the things that you should keep in mind is to use what you already have and is available in your home. Multi-color lights are versatile in such a way that they can be paired with almost any item that you have. Great items that can be matched with these lights include vases and glass jars, lightweight sheer fabrics, candlesticks, glass beads, and much more. A very popular object to pair up with colored lights is a glass jar. You can use a vase or a bowl as well. Anything that is made of glass is versatile as well and can be utilized for decorating purposes. Just fill the container with multicolored lights along with glass marbles for a more striking effect. This would definitely serve as a lovely table accent for your office or den table.
Tables can also be wrapped around in colored mini lights. You can get some ideas for this just by walking around the home improvement store. For example, you can work on table legs that are thick and sturdy that already has been designed with woodwork accent. You can further paint the wood for it to match your decorations and attach these to some wooden base. Now you are ready to wrap the legs using colored lights. You can even place a potted plant on top if the table legs are large and strong enough. They can be used on your front porch or a dark corner in your hose to add more beauty and sparkle to such space.
Other ways to use multi colored lights is to make your own lighted headboard by using any piece of wood that you have at home. After you have painted or stained it, it is important to drill holes for the lights to pass through. With colored C7 or mini lights attached to your headboard, you can certainly expect light to easily shine through. Aside from your own projects, multi-colored lights are also great for parties and special occasions, from weddings and baby showers to Halloween and Christmas. You see, you just cannot stop having fun when using holiday lights in transforming any space into something brilliant and beautiful.

How Christmas Lights Came To Be – The Role of Light during the Season

Christmas is a special celebration that has been widely accepted by almost every home around the world. While this occasion lays an emphasis on the birth of Jesus Christ, others prefer to spend their holidays with their family and friends. For you to understand how the Christmas lights have evolved, it may help to know about how Christmas has been recognized as one of the most special holidays of the year. Many years ago, during the middle of winter, many countries were known to carry out great celebrations. For instance, people from Scandinavia celebrated during the winter solstice, particularly from December 21st to the entire month of January. Because winter was perceived as a dull and dreary time of the year, people celebrated such season to anticipate the return of the sun. In honoring the holiday, fathers and their sons would bring home some large logs and have these burned to give off light. It was even said that the logs took almost 12 days for these to burn out. This time, the Scandinavians had their feasts and took pleasure and enjoyment from each others company. With this, we see the role of lights in creating a festive mood for the people.

Next, Romans also celebrated the winter solstice by putting up feasts as a way of honoring the Roman children. During this time, the birthday of Mithra, who is recognized as the “god of the unconquerable sun”, was celebrated. Therefore, we can again see the theme and role of lights during such season. Martin Luther, who was a reformer during the 1500s, was also assumed to be the first individual who had brightened up an evergreen tree by using candles. It was even said that Luther was walking around one winter evening under the evergreen trees; as he realized that the brightness of the twinkling stars in the night sky made a great match as a backdrop for the trees, he tried placing an evergreen tree in his home and placed candles around it for this family to see.

In 1620, the Pilgrims arrived in America and prohibited Christmas traditions due to their puritanical beliefs. However, the other inhabitants who lived within the Jamestown settlement, including Captain John Smith, carried on the Christmas beliefs and customs. In June 26th of 1870, Christmas had been officially made known as a holiday in the country. After the next century, Americans had widely accepted the Christmas holiday accompanied by a wide range of traditions, from card sending and gift giving to putting up Christmas trees and making ornaments and decorations.

As people used to bring small evergreen trees to their homes and positioned in a central room, they decorated their branches with candles that had been attached using pins or melted wax. They also hung ornaments near these lights so the candles could actually show the ornaments especially at night. For many years, people used such methods of decorating and illuminating their trees. However, they realized that the candles were melting quickly and called for the need to be replaced as often as possible. In 1882, electric lamps were introduced by Edward Johnson who was residing in New York and was a known inventor of incandescent bulbs. He was also good friends with Thomas Edison, the man who has been associated with the first ever light bulb. During this same year, Johnson thought of decorating a tree with various strings of red, blue and white light. These incandescent light strings were draped around the branches of the tree and people who took a look at the twinkling tree were charmed. By 1890, these Christmas light strands that had been developed by Johnson were then mass-produced. In 1903, General Electric began selling Christmas tree lights with which the American Eveready Company was responsible for manufacturing the lights. The company’s name may be familiar as it is the same Eveready company that is producing batteries and selling them on the market these days.

If we fast forward to the present, people can now choose from a wide range of Christmas lights that mostly come in the form of incandescent and LED lights. You can also choose lights depending on the shape, size, color, and style that you prefer. Such lights can be modified to be appropriately paired with a certain event, display, or project. While the history of Christmas lights is long, their function remains the same, which is to add that extra glow and sparkle to homes, offices, and other larger buildings and create such festive feeling when celebrating the Christmas season.

There are many ways to use LED Christmas lights throughout the year. Of course, LED Christmas lights can work their magic on other occasions as well. Consider some of the following suggestions for using LED lighting to beautifully illuminate the special moments of your life.

Encourage family and friends to linger outside on summer nights by lighting your deck, patio, or backyard with strings of white LED mini lights.

Choose orange LED mini lights to add a spooky accent along pathways and porches at Halloween.
